The Importance of “Linking Out”
If you are a frequent reader at any popular blog, chances are you have seen the blogger link to a lot of different sites and even have posts of just a few links to interesting posts from around the web. So, why do these bloggers “link out”? Well, linking out has a number of advantages:
- First of all, it gives your readers a wider range of information and opinions to digest. It helps your reader get the information that they want and thus improves the overall quality of your content, even though all you did was point to other’s content.
- Secondly, it helps you build relationships with other bloggers in your niche. Connections are very very important in blogging and linking to others is one of the best ways you can get someones attention and hopefully build a connection.
- Often times, the blogger you link to will return the favor by linking to one of your articles in a future blog post.
- It is a quick and easy post to write that at the same time is filled with great content. That’s a Win-Win. Linking out is a great option on slow news days or when you can’t think of a topic to write about. Just don’t do it too frequently so that your blog turns into a virtual link directory.
