Page Rank Update - Major Downgrade

The blogosphere is buzzing today with news surrounding how many of the Internet’s top blogs and web properties were downgraded in page rank by Google due to the controversy surrounding selling links. Large blogs like ProBlogger (6 to 4), CopyBlogger (6 to 4), Search Engine Journal (7 to 4), Engadget ( 7 to 5), and others were penalized, as were major news companies like Forbes.com (7 to 5), Washington Post ( 7 to 5), and others. DailyBlogTips has a good list of blogs that got hit hard by the downgrade.

Still, there is some controversy over why blogs like ProBlogger were downgraded. Darren said in a post today,

I’d heard blogs had been penalized in their page rank recently for selling text links - bizarre thing is that neither of these two blogs sell links. I’ve never sold text links at DPS and haven’t on ProBlogger for months now - perhaps I was penalized for taking them off!

What does this mean for bloggers? Well, be cautious if you sell text links because you may lose authority in Google. This will unquestionably hurt many of the bloggers that made their money through text link sales.

What a great concept. I really like your website and am eagerly awaiting for Decemeber. Keep up the good work!

and my blog has PR3 now even though my URL is just 2 months old. I shifted my blog from blogger to wordpress and expected PR so quick.

Could you please write articles on how you approached these huge personalities so that they agree for interviews? I mean they don’t read on every email?

I plan to do a similar thing coming new year as my blog will turn 1 year old then. I plan to get a new custom theme plus a new logo and then start publishing interviews in the new year. Please write a post on what you did to approach these people??

I knew some of these people before BlogOnExpo so that helped. Otherwise, I found their contact information and asked and they agreed.

Thank you
